Ben's grand day out!
Congratulations to Mr Ben Burgess who, as our 200 club 1st prize winner, selected to choose one of our ‘money can’t buy’ experiences, and enjoyed a full footplate journey on 41241.
Ben told us, ‘Garry, Richard and Gemma were very welcoming and informative on my round trip, a big thank you is due to all of them, as well as to Tom for the amazing photos.
Of course, enjoying the locomotive is the obvious highlight, but also just speaking with the crew about their backgrounds, reasons for volunteering and what they enjoy most about it was what, I would say, I got the most out of it.
Especially discussing which locomotives they prefer and how each one requires its own technique of driving and firing; it’s almost like the locos have their own personality in a way. I just find that sort of thing very interesting.’

KWVR Friends 200 club lottery
To celebrate 200 years of train travel and to raise funds for the future of our own Heritage Railway, the Friends of the KWVR is introducing a new KWVR Members only lottery, the 200 Club. Monies raised will be used for projects on the Railway.
With a single annual payment of £26 you can purchase a ticket that will be entered into four Quarterly draws and you can buy as many tickets as you like. As an annual Lottery, applications will be accepted up to mid November 2026 and draws made in Dec ‘26, March ‘27, June ‘27, and Sept ’27.
There will be 3 Prizes; 1st is £200 OR a ‘money can’t buy’ experience
2nd is £75 and 3rd is £25
Entry is only open to KWVR members, 18+ years old. Applications can be made by FILLING IN THIS FORM HERE
